Cancun: Ringing in the New Year

One of the best decisions I made in 2020 was to spend the New Year in Cancun, Mexico. I went with my brother and a group of friends and we had a blast! This was the first time I splurged on my own room and I have never looked back! We stayed at the Azul Beach Resort Riviera Cancun, which was advertised as Gourmet. The food was good, but I don’t think I would classify it as gourmet. Resorts were barely opening so the resort was not full. The staff provided excellent customer service during our stay and the property was gorgeous and inviting.

The first highlight of the trip was our excursion which included cenotes, ziplining, and your choice of horseback riding or ATVs. A cenote is a natural sinkhole that forms when limestone bedrock collapses, exposing groundwater. There are thousands in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. The water is cool and refreshing. I highly recommend you experience one. I am not a confident swimmer at all. But I will do almost anything with a life jacket and a tour guide or two.

The second highlight of the trip was the New Year’s Eve party. The resort set up a stage and tables on the beach. They provided entertainment and music until we rang in the New Year! The weather was PERFECT; the ocean wind kept you cool as you laughed and “danced” the night away…(I usually dance in my chair…haha!) We were ready to bid adieus to 2020 and it was great to do so with friends I love.
